Rom-Com Manga A Couple of Cuckoos Gets TV Anime in 2022
Kadokawa revealed a teaser trailer of Miki Yoshikawa’s romcom manga A Couple of Cuckoos. The TV anime adaptation stars Kaito Ishikawa (Haikyu!! – Tobio Kageyama) and Akari Kito (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Nezuko Kamado). Both will lead as Nagi Umino and Erika Amano.
A Couple of Cuckoos is scheduled to premiere in Japan TV in 2022.

The trailer features a wealthy teen celebrity Erika Amano wanting studious Nagi Umino to pose as her boyfriend. She says that it’s an honor to be her significant other, even if it’s only on paper. Later on, they both find out that their parents agree on fixing the young teens’ marriage.
The anime adaptation is produced by Shin-Ei Animation/Synergy SP. Chief direction is handled by Hiroaki Akagi (Mashiro no Oto), while Yoshiyuki Shirahata directs the anime. Yasuhiro Nakanashi writes the series composition, and Aya Takano provides the character designs.

A Couple of Cuckoos has been running in Kodansha’s Weekyl Shonen Magazine since January 2020. The latest volume, Volume 3, was released in Japan last April 16, 2020. Kodansha Comics is publishing the series in English and describes the story as:
16-year-old super-studier Nagi Umino, second-year student at the Meguro River Academy high school, was switched at birth. On his way to a dinner to meet his birth parents, he accidentally meets the brash, outspoken, Erika Amano, who is determined to make Nagi her fake boyfriend as she never wants to actually marry. But once Nagi makes it to dinner, he finds his parents have decided to resolve the hospital switch by conveniently having him marry the daughter his birth parents raised…who turns out to be none other than Erika herself!
